Pureformulas Prenatal by Douglas Laboratories

How many times do I have to watch the monkey eat the banana? I’ve seen it thousands of times, and something needs to change. What I’m really referring to is prenatal vitamins that get off selling a formula that only contains vitamins and minerals. There are other super important ingredients that these prenatal vitamin makers are completely ignoring, and Pureformulas Prenatal by Douglas Laboratories is one such maker that has covered its eyes and ears. Besides the 22 great vitamins and minerals in Pureformulas Prenatal by Douglas Laboratories, nothing else is present.

Pureformulas Prenatal by Douglas Laboratories Ingredients

Vitamin A (5000 IU), Vitamin C (100 mg), Vitamin D3 (800 IU), Vitamin E (50 IU), Thiamine (1.5 mg), Riboflavin (1.7  mg), Niacinamide (20 mg), Vitamin B6 (2 mg), Folic Acid (800 mcg), Vitamin B12 (10 mcg), Biotin (300 mcg), Pantothenic Acid (10 mg), Calcium (150 mg), Iron (27 mg), Iodine (150 mcg), Magnesium (75 mg), Zinc (10 mg), Selenium (75 mcg), Copper (1 mg), Manganese (1 mg), Chromium (150 mcg), Molybdenum (75 mcg).

Essential Ingredients To Look For In A Prenatal Vitamin

Any prenatal vitamin should measure up to the likes of the Top Rated Prenatal Vitamins, Trimedisyn and Prenatalgyn. These two prenatal vitamins come fully equipped with all the ingredients that your child needs. You also have certain needs while you are pregnant since your body is changing constantly. The most essential vitamins and minerals to have in any prenatal vitamin are Calcium, Iron, and Folic Acid. All the other ingredients you should seek out are DHA, Choline, Inositol, Probiotics, and CoQ10. A developing baby is like building a very complex machine. There are so many different moving parts that must have the right formula to get it just right.

Essential Ingredients Found In Pureformulas Prenatal by Douglas Laboratories

Pureformulas Prenatal by Douglas Laboratories has fallen prey to the same old formula that most other prenatal vitamins use. That is, there are only vitamins and minerals in the formula. Seriously, why can’t someone update the formula that most of these prenatal vitamin makers are using? I feel like they are still stuck in the 70s or 80s! Luckily Pureformulas Prenatal by Douglas Laboratories has enough Folic Acid and Iron, but, like always, Calcium does not reach the required amount. It is obviously more difficult to try and get 1,000 mg of Calcium in a prenatal vitamin, or you’d see more than 150 mg in Pureformulas Prenatal by Douglas Laboratories.

Essential Ingredients Not Found In Pureformulas Prenatal by Douglas Laboratories

It’s a wonder so many prenatal vitamins get away with giving pregnant women only vitamins and minerals. Pureformulas Prenatal by Douglas Laboratories doesn’t have any of the high-quality ingredients that are so important to a healthy pregnancy: CoQ10, Choline, Probiotics, and Inositol.

Overall Rating Of Pureformulas Prenatal by Douglas Laboratories

If Pureformulas Prenatal by Douglas Laboratories were a movie with a major Hollywood star in it, I’d still have to give it only two out of five stars. The Hollywood star ingredient in Pureformulas Prenatal by Douglas Laboratories is definitely the Folic Acid, since that is one ingredient that makes or breaks any prenatal vitamin. The only movie that would get five out of five stars from me is the Top 2 Prenatal Vitamins.

Are Vitafol Ob-Caplets safe?

Vitafol Ob-Caplets are prenatal vitamins that are meant to support general health and well-being in pregnant women, as well as alleviate any vitamin deficiencies. These are prescription prenatal vitamins and ,while they are not dangerous, it is worth it to be informed and to speak to your doctor before you begin taking them.

Ingredients found in Vitafol Ob-Caplets

These multivitamins contain vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, folic acid, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, niacin, iron, zinc, magnesium, and copper.

What key ingredients are missing in Vitafol Ob-Caplets?

With a glaring lack of imagination and awareness, Vitafol has failed to supply their vitamins with probiotics, CoQ10, inositol, choline, DHA, or ginger root. While it may be an exaggeration to say that I cried when I heard this news, it would be an understatement to say that I was not pleased. In short, these six simple ingredients contain a treasure trove of health benefits not only for you, but for your unborn child as well. Not only that, probiotics and ginger can actually make your pregnancy more comfortable and enjoyable by relieving gastrointestinal discomfort that can plague an otherwise joyful pregnancy.

How much are Vitafol Ob-Caplets?

Although prices may vary, you can expect to pay roughly $60 for 100 caplets or so.

Overall Rating of Vitafol Ob-Caplets

While these prenatal vitamins are far from being snake oil, I still hesitate to tout their virtues too highly. Simply put, they lack six key ingredients, don’t contain sufficient calcium, and seem fairly overpriced for what they offer. However, as always, it is up to you (and your doctor) to decide whether or not this vitamin is right for you. Good luck and happy vitamin shopping!

Is Spring Valley Prenatal Multivitamin safe?

This product is a prenatal multivitamin meant to be taken during pregnancy and lactation. It is supposed to support the general well being of a pregnant woman. Although this vitamin is not dangerous, it is up to to you to be aware of what exactly it contains and how it will effect you before you take it. Luckily, you are reading this review, so I can give you a few pointers.

Ingredients found in Spring Valley Prenatal Multivitamin

Each tablet of Spring Valley Prenatal Multivitamin contains vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, niacin, folic acid, vitamin B12, calcium, iron, and zinc. It also contains cellulose, maltodextrin, gelatin, dl-Alpha tocopheryl acetate, croscarmellose sodium, niacinamide, crosprovidone, corn starch, hypromellose, dextrin, titanium dioxide, stearic acid, polyethylene glycol, pyridoxide, silicon dioxide, red 40, magnesium stearate, dextrose, soy lecithin, dicalcium phosphate, yellow 6, blue 2, cholecalciferol, and cyanocobalamin.

What key ingredients are missing in Spring Valley Prenatal Multivitamin?

Unfortunately, Spring Valley Prenatal Multivitamin does not contain probiotics, CoQ10, inositol, choline, DHA, or ginger root. These six ingredients offer a a wide array of benefits to both you and your baby, and in my opinion, should be considered non-optional in a prenatal vitamin. The trick, of course, is to find a prenatal vitamin that contains all the right ingredients without breaking the bank. Just think, the first of many challenges and decisions as a mother!

How much is Spring Valley Prenatal Multivitamin?

What it lacks in important ingredients, Spring Valley Prenatal Multivitamin tries to compensate by its bargain barrel discount prices. Online prices vary, but according to amazon.com, a mere $14.02 will keep you in Spring Valley Prenatal Multivitamins for eight whole months. While this is a seriously low price, I exhort you to examine the value of the product as it pertains to both quality and to cost.

Overall Rating of Spring Valley Prenatal Multivitamin

When I review prenatal vitamins, I try to remain somewhat neutral and stress the fact that ultimately, a woman needs to find a prenatal vitamin that is right for her, regardless of my opinion. However, in this case, I doubt that Spring Valley Prenatal Multivitamin could truly be the right option for anyone. Allow me to elaborate – although Spring Valley Prenatal Multivitamin contains decent amounts of folic acid and iron, as well as a nice blend of B vitamins, and a few other healthful ingredients, it also contains a lot of artificial colors. In addition, this vitamin comes in tablet form. Since tablets are cheap to manufacture, they are also cheaper to purchase. However, they are also difficult for your body to break down and absorb. In general, it’s better to look for a vitamin that comes in capsule form.

As a final nail in the coffin, Spring Valley Prenatal Multivitamin lacks six very important key ingredients (remember probiotics, CoQ10, inositol, choline, DHA, and ginger root?). This, together with a fairly low amount of calcium (200mg instead of the preferable 750), clears my conscience to declare this vitamin a fairly below average choice. But fear not, mothers-to-be, the perfect prenatal could be just around the corner! Keep searching for the perfect combination of high-quality and low-cost!

Is Rainbow Light Prenatal One safe?

Rainbow Light Prenatal One is an all natural, all vegan prenatal vitamin that contains no artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives. While not inherently harmful, I do feel I should mention that this vitamin comes in tablet form. Although tablets are safe, they are harder for the body to break down and absorb. I usually try to look for prenatal vitamins that come in capsule form. That being said, of course it is up to you and your doctor to decide whether or not Rainbow Light Prenatal One is the right choice for you and your unborn baby.

Ingredients found in Rainbow Light Prenatal One

Rainbow Light Prenatal One contains most of the more common ingredients found in prenatal vitamins like vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin K, vitamin B1, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin B12, biotin, vitamin B5, calcium, iron, iodine, magnesium, chromium, molybdenum, and potassium. Furthermore, Rainbow Light Prenatal One also contains some less common ingredients, like citrus bioflavonoid complex, choline, inositol, boron, and a “gentle prenatal blend” that contains red raspberry, ginger, and organic spirulina. Lastly, there is the “complete digestive support” that contains protease, amylase, lipase, cellulase, and lactobacillus sporogenes. In other words, probiotics.

What key ingredients are missing in Rainbow Light Prenatal One?

Although Rainbow Light Prenatal One does a great job of including probiotics, inositol, choline, and ginger, I would have liked to see DHA and CoQ10 in the line-up. DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid, can help play a huge part in the development of your baby’s eyes and brain, while DHA can help reduce the risk of birth defects. As long as I’m listing my grievances, I’ll also add one more. I’m disappointed that Rainbow Light Prenatal One only contains 200 mg of calcium. During this important time as your baby grows and develops, it is essential that you and your baby receive enough calcium to keep BOTH of your bones strong and healthy. It’s a good idea to look for a prenatal vitamin that contains at least 750mg of calcium.

How much is Rainbow Light Prenatal One?

Prices may vary if you purchase this product online, but in general, you can expect to pay about $15 for a bottle of 30 tablets, $35 for 90 tablets, and $45 for 150 tablets. This product is a once-a-day prenatal vitamin, so you can estimate one bottle for a month’s worth of vitamins.

Overall rating of Rainbow Light Prenatal One

Rainbow Light Prenatal One has a pretty good list of both pros and cons. On a positive note, I love the fact that this product is vegan and all-natural. I also really commend Rainbow Light for including probiotics and ginger in this product, two ingredients that are not only good for you, but that help prevent nausea and other gastrointestinal issues as well. However, on the negative side, this product lacks not only DHA and CoQ10, but also fails to provide an adequate amount of calcium. That, combined with the fact that this product comes in tablet form, makes me a little wary of recommending this vitamin very highly. If you decide that Rainbow Light Prenatal One isn’t right for you, I can recommend Trimedisyn – you can read a review here

Is Promise Prenatal safe?

Promise Prenatal does not contain anything inherently dangerous. As always however, you should follow the directions on the bottle and check with a medical professional before beginning to take this prenatal vitamin.

What ingredients are found in Promise Prenatal?

This is a tricky question to answer since Promise Prenatal is really three different prenatal vitamins. This product is designed to be taken in three different phases. In other words, there is one vitamin for the first trimester, a slightly different vitamin for the second and third trimesters, and one more for after delivery and during lactation.

The first stage contains vitamins C, D, E, thiamine, vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin B12, biotin, pantothenic acid, calcium, iron, iodine, magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, chromium, and molybdenum.

The second phase includes vitamin A, riboflavin, and niacin, but excludes chromium and molybdenum.

The third phase contains the same ingredients as the second phase but, in some cases, in different quantities.

What key ingredients are missing in Promise Prenatal?

Despite the specialty nature of Promise Prenatal’s phasic prenatal vitamin, the overall value of this product suffers greatly by the lack of probiotics, CoQ10, inositol, choline, DHA, and ginger root. These ingredients, some of them newly researched, are the real face of the future in the world of prenatal vitamins. In my opinion, it’s bordering on irresponsible to make a prenatal vitamin without any of these key ingredients.

How much is Promise Prenatal?

Prices may vary, but according to its own website, a one month supply will set you back $24.80, while a nine month supply will cost $124.

Overall rating of Promise Prenatal

Personally, I’m not terribly impressed by anything that Promise Prenatal has to offer me. On a positive note, I appreciate that this prenatal is a once-a-day capsule, the easiest (and my favorite) way to take a vitamin. However, this vitamin lacks some key ingredients that prevent me from giving it a rating higher than average.

May 4

Is Buried Treasure PreNatal Plus DHA Complete safe?

This liquid prenatal vitamin contains a lengthy list of vitamins, minerals, and herbs. While not dangerous, you should still check with your doctor before taking this product.

Ingredients found in Buried Treasure PreNatal Plus DHA Complete?

This is one prenatal vitamin with a long name, and a list of supplement facts just as long. Keep reading, and I will shed the light of knowledge onto ingredients that range from common to unusual. To start, this prenatal vitamin comes in liquid form which means it contains sugar, so it doesn’t taste too bitter. It also contains a DHA omega 3 blend, bioflavonoid complex, niacinamide, folic acid, pantothenic acid, biotin, choline bitartrate, inositol, PABA, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, chromium, boron, potassium, iodine, and an herbal blend made of red raspberry leaf, ginger root, and chamomile flower. But that’s not all! I haven’t even begun to mention the vitamins hiding in this beverage. Vitamins A, C, D, E, B1, B2, B6, B12, and K all help to supplement PreNatal Plus DHA Complete. Lastly, the flavor and texture comes from pure mountain water, pineapple juice, white grape juice, citric acid, natural pineapple, coconut apple, banana, orange-mango and other natural flavors, xanthan gum, guar gum, potassium sorbate, and nisaplin.

What key ingredients are missing in Buried Treasure PreNatal Plus DHA Complete?

After such an extensive list of ingredients, it’s hard to believe that Buried Treasure left ANY ingredients out. However, prenatal vitamins, like men, are seldom perfect, and PreNatal Plus DHA Complete is no different.
Although this product includes inositol, choline, DHA, and ginger root – all key ingredients to look for when shopping for a prenatal vitamin, there are no probiotics or CoQ10 in this vitamin. In my opinion, probiotics should be considered an absolutely essential ingredient in a prenatal vitamin. During pregnancy, many women suffer from such unpleasant ailments of heartburn, constipation, cramping, diarrhea, and/or nausea. Like a true jack-of-all-trades, probiotics can help with all of these symptoms! Not only that, probiotics help reduce the risk of obesity in children (even unborn children). And if you needed a further reason to love probiotics, they can also help you from putting on too much weight during pregnancy – naturally and safely!
CoQ10, the other ingredient that Buried Treasure left buried and forgotten, helps your cells (and your baby’s cells) grow, while also helping your cardiovascular system to function at full capacity. Not only that, CoQ10 is also an antioxidant – one more health benefit for you and your baby!

How much is Buried Treasure PreNatal Plus DHA Complete?

Prices may vary somewhere around $13-$25, but potential buyers should be aware that this price will get you one 16 fl oz bottle. Since a serving size is two tablespoons, (30mL) one bottle would last you roughly 16 days. In other words, one 9 month pregnancy would add up to 18 bottles, and could cost as much as $450.

Overall rating of Buried Treasure PreNatal Plus DHA Complete

In general, Buried Treasure PreNatal Plus DHA Complete does better than many other prenatal vitamins on the market. Its inclusion of four high-quality ingredients (inositol, choline, DHA, and ginger root) put it on somewhat of a pedestal. However, its qualities can not make up for its lack of probiotics and CoQ10. In a perfect world, all prenatal vitamins would contain these two ingredients in addition to inositol, choline, DHA, and ginger root, but alas! we must muddle along in a world filled with not-quite-right vitamins. As grim as this sounds, I can at least point you in the direction of our top rated vitamins, which come as close as mortal vitamins can to perfection.

May 3

Are Now Prenatal Vitamin Caps safe?

This product is a dietary supplement for pregnant women. It does not contain yeast, wheat, gluten, milk, egg, sugar, salt, or preservatives. Each vitamin comes in capsule form which is made of gelatin, cellulose, and magnesium stearate. Although none of the ingredients in this product are inherently dangerous, you should always talk to your doctor before taking these or any other dietary supplements – especially when you’re pregnant!

Ingredients found in Now Prenatal Vitamin Caps?

Now Prenatal contains vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin K, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin B12, biotin, pantothenic acid, calcium, iron, iodine, magnesium, zinc, selenium, copper, manganese, chromium, molybdenum, potassium, choline, inositol, PABA, and vanadium.

What key ingredients are missing in Now Prenatal Vitamin Caps?

Although Now Prenatal Vitamin Caps do an awesome job of supplying plenty of folic acid, vitamin B6, calcium, iron, choline, and vitamins A and C, they fall short in terms of CoQ10, probiotics, DHA, and ginger.

How much are Now Prenatal Vitamin Caps?

Prices hover around $10 for a bottle of 120 capsules. Although this is still relatively cheap for prenatal vitamins, potential buyers should be aware that one daily dose is four pills. That means that a bottle of 120 would only last for one month.

Overall Rating of Now Prenatal Vitamin Caps

For its cheap price, Now Prenatal Vitamin Caps do an admirable job of providing pretty high quantities of many of the more common ingredients that you should look for in a prenatal vitamin. Especially notable is the 1200mg of calcium. Since calcium is essential to building the brand new bones in your unborn baby, it’s essential for you to supply enough calcium to keep your bones and your baby’s bones well supplied. A majority of prenatal vitamins only contain a few hundred mg of calcium, so I give major kudos to Now Prenatal Vitamin Caps on that front.

However, this doesn’t necessarily make Now Prenatal Vitamin Caps the optimal choice of prenatal vitamin. Unfortunately, this prenatal vitamin lacks several key ingredients, namely CoQ10, probiotics, DHA, and ginger. CoQ10 is so important during pregnancy because it helps your baby’s heart to grow and beat strong, while improving your energy and stamina. Probiotics, another key ingredient, should be considered a priority for you as a pregnant woman. Not only do probiotics help your entire gastrointestinal system, they can help prevent nausea and other unpleasant side-effects of pregnancy. Furthermore, studies have shown that pregnant women that get plenty of probiotics help reduce the risk of obesity for their children. DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid, is another ingredient to look for in your prenatal vitamin, but that Now Prenatal Vitamin Caps do not include. DHA can help your baby’s central nervous system grow, while helping to keep your brain functioning well too! Lastly, ginger – an all-natural cure for the effects of morning sickness and other nausea -would have been a valuable addition to this prenatal vitamin.

In short, despite Now Prenatal’s commendable amounts of folic acid, vitamin B6, calcium, iron, choline, and vitamins A and C, I don’t feel confident recommending it as a top choice. It certainly stands head and shoulders above the majority of prenatal vitamins, but could have gotten a higher rating (at least from me) if it had included a few more high-quality ingredients.

Is Nordic Naturals Prenatal DHA safe?

Nordic Naturals Prenatal DHA is a supplement for pregnant women that provides 450 mg of DHA in each dose. It does not contain gluten, milk derivatives, or artificial colors or flavors. Although there are no particularly dangerous ingredients in this product, it’s always a good idea to read through the ingredients and instructions, and to talk to a doctor before beginning to take Nordic Naturals Prenatal DHA.

Ingredients found in Nordic Naturals Prenatal DHA

This product contains purified deep sea fish oil. This oil, gleaned from anchovies and sardines, provides the valuable omega-3s that provide you with health benefits that improve the vision, cognitive, and motor skills of your child. These omega-3s come in the form of DHA – docosahexaenoic acid (450 mg), and EPA – eicosapentaenoic acid (90mg), as well as 40 mg of other omega-3s. There are also 24 mg of oleic acid (found in olive oil), which provides omega-9. Additionally, each dose of Nordic Naturals Prenatal DHA contains soft capsule (made from gelatin, water, and glycerin), d-alpha tocopheral (vitamin E), and rosemary extract.

What key ingredients are missing in Nordic Naturals Prenatal DHA?

To answer this question, it is important for you to know that this product is not a prenatal multivitamin. Nordic Naturals Prenatal DHA is a specialty product focusing on one main ingredient – DHA. While DHA is definitely a key ingredient for anyone that is pregnant, there are many other vital vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that should be considered essential to your diet and to the health of your future child.

How much is Nordic Naturals Prenatal DHA?

Prices range from $25-$30 for a bottle of 90 softgels. One dose is two soft gels, so one bottle provides enough pills for a month and a half.

Overall rating of Nordic Naturals Prenatal DHA

Although I don’t have any specific criticisms against this product, I would not go out of my way to recommend it to anyone. For me, this product is too specialized to be something that I would consider purchasing. Although DHA is an important component of a healthy pregnancy, I would rather purchase one prenatal multivitamin that provides me with DHA and the many other ingredients that I need to keep myself and my baby healthy.

Since this product does not contain any calcium, folic acid, iron, probiotics, vitamin B6, ginger or vitamins A, C, and D, you would have to take a separate prenatal vitamin in addition to this product. That means more expenses, and more pills to remember to take. I’ve never been too fond of swallowing pills, especially when I’m pregnant, and the idea of taking more than one prenatal vitamin makes me a little queasy.

That being said, if you really cannot get enough DHA into your diet, then perhaps this could be a good choice for you. If not, check out out top rated vitamins, both of which contain DHA.

Apr 27

Is New Chapter Organic Perfect Prenatal safe?

New Chapter Organic Perfect Prenatal is a whole food prenatal multivitamin that is meant to support a healthy pregnancy for mother and child. Although this product is not dangerous, you should read the directions carefully and consult your doctor before using it.

Ingredients found in New Chapter Organic Perfect Prenatal?

Each dose (three tablets) of New Chapter Perfect Prenatal contains vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D3, vitamin E, vitamin K1, vitamin K2, thiamin-vitamin B1, riboflavin-vitamin B2, niacin, vitamin B6, folate, vitamin B12, biotin, pantothenic acid, calcium, iron, iodine, magnesium, zinc, selenium, copper, manganese, chromium, molybdenum, mixed carotenoids. Each prenatal vitamin also includes an herbal blend with organic brown rice, organic oats, organic blueberries, organic prunes, organs blackberries, organic flame raisins, organic raspberries, organic dandelion, organic rose hips, organic lavender, organic lemon balm, organic peppermint, organic cloves, L.casei, L.plantarum, L.salivarius, L.acidophilus, L.rhamnosus, S.thermophilus, B. bifidum, B.infantis, B.longum, and B.breve. Also included is a breast support blend with organic broccoli, organic cauliflower, organic kale, organic daikon radish, organic cabbage, and organic mustard.

What key ingredients are missing in New Chapter Organic Perfect Prenatal?

One of the things I like the most about New Chapter Organic Perfect Prenatal is its inclusion of probiotics. Probiotics not only help keep you and your baby healthy, they can also help you feel better by preventing heartburn, constipation, cramping, diarrhea, and nausea – just what you need during pregnancy! However, apart from probiotics, New Chapter lacks many other crucial ingredients, like CoQ10, inositol, choline, DHA, and ginger. Each of these ingredients are essential parts to a healthy pregnancy, and I can’t really recommend any prenatal vitamin that doesn’t include them.

How much is New Chapter Organic Perfect Prenatal?

Prices vary, but in general you can expect to pay $60-$70 for a pack of 270 tablets. Remember! One dose is actually 3 tablets, so 270 tablets is a three month supply.

Overall rating of New Chapter Organic Perfect Prenatal

There are a few things that I really like about this prenatal vitamin. First of all, I love that it is vegetarian-friendly. I also like its focus on whole foods, and the fact that it includes probiotics. New Chapter stays away from artificial flavors and colors and is gluten-free. That being said, I’ve exhausted my supply of positive things to say; my list of grievances reads much longer. Like I said, I really can’t recommend a prenatal vitamin that does not have quality ingredients like CoQ10, inositol, choline, DHA, and ginger. New Chapter requires you to take 3 pills a day, something else that I have a problem with. Not only that, those pills come in tablet form – the hardest for your body to break down and absorb. As much as I’d like to recommend New Chapter because of its focus on organic and natural ingredients, I give it a mediocre rating at best.

If you decide that New Chapter is not for you, I encourage you to take a look at some of our top-rated prenatal vitamins on the site.

Apr 23

Is ProViQ safe?

ProViQ is a prenatal vitamin that can (and should) be taken before, during, and after pregnancy. ProViQ is not dangerous, but you should read the label carefully and talk to your doctor before starting to take this, or any other, prenatal vitamin.

Ingredients Found in ProViQ

ProViQ contains vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D3, vitamin E, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B3, vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin B12, biotin, pantothenic acid, elemental calcium, iron, iodine, magnesium aspartate, zinc, selenium, copper, manganese, chromax, potassium, ginger, a probiotic blend, DHA powder, choline inositol, CoQ10, and bioperine.

What key ingredients are missing in ProViQ?

This modest little vitamin has done something impressive – ProViQ is not missing any key ingredients. Bravo!
Not only does ProViQ have folic acid, iron, and calcium, each dose also includes nine other vitamins and ten minerals. Especially noteworthy is what ProViQ calls a “proprietary blend” of probiotics, ginger, DHA, choline, inositol, CoQ10, and bioperine.

These last seven ingredients are the newest “miracle workers” in the world of prenatal vitamins. Probiotics have been proven to maintain balance in your immune system, and your digestive tract. They also not only help reduce weight gain for you, they can help prevent childhood obesity for your baby! Ginger is another special component of ProViq that is an absolute life saver. If you have ever experienced morning sickness, you know what a chore it is to deal with. Ginger is an all natural cure for nausea, and it’s built right into your prenatal vitamin. DHA, another key ingredient, is a building block of the central nervous system, and can even help your baby’s vision. Choline helps reduce neural tube defects, and CoQ10 can help your heart and your energy levels. Bioperine is an extract of black pepper that helps you get the most out of all these nutrients.

How much is ProViQ?

One bottle is $39.95, three for $99.95, 6 for $149.99, and 9 for $199.95.

Overall rating of ProViQ

I admire ProViq for creating a quality prenatal vitamin and for creating a reasonable price to go with it. The only thing I would mention to someone shopping for the perfect prenatal vitamin is to make sure check the quantity of each ingredient. For example, there are 5mg of calcium in ProViQ, which means a pregnant woman should be sure to include additional calcium, from other sources, in her diet. It’s also important to remember that a serving size is two capsules per day. Other than that, I feel confident recommending ProViQ as an above average prenatal vitamin. Its list of ingredients and its affordability definitely put it near the top of my list.

Apr 20

Is Nature’s Bounty Prenatal Formula safe?

This prenatal vitamin is meant to be taken before, during, and after pregnancy. It contains no artificial flavors, sweeteners, preservatives, sugar, starch, milk, lactose, gluten, wheat, yeast, shellfish, or sodium. It does, however contain fish ingredients. Although this vitamin is not particularly unsafe, you should always talk to your doctor before starting this (or any other) dietary supplement.

Ingredients found in Nature’s Bounty Prenatal Formula

Each tablet contains vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, a B vitamin blend that includes thiamin (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), vitamin B6, and vitamin B12. This vitamin also includes folic acid, calcium, iron, and zinc. Its additional ingredients include vegetable cellulose, vegetable stearic acid, calcium silicate, vegetable magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide color, FD&C yellow 6 aluminum lake, FD&C red 40 aluminum lake, and FD&C blue1.

What key ingredients are missing in Nature’s Bounty Prenatal Formula?

Although Nature’s Bounty Prenatal Formula contains the basic vitamins and minerals that you need in a prenatal vitamin, it is missing several key ingredients. Unfortunately, this vitamin does not contain probiotics, CoQ10, inositol, choline, DHA, or ginger root. In my opinion, these are absolute essentials in a prenatal vitamin.

How much is Nature’s Bounty Prenatal Formula?

This prenatal is quite affordable. Prices may vary, but stay under $15 for a bottle of 100 tablets.

Overall rating of Nature’s Bounty Prenatal Formula

Deciding which prenatal vitamin to take during your pregnancy is one of the first very important decisions you will make as a parent. It’s important, therefore, that you pick a prenatal vitamin that offers you, and your baby, the very best. When considering the value of a prenatal vitamin there is so much more to consider than price alone. Nature’s Bounty Prenatal Formula is definitely an affordable option, and contains a valuable blend of vitamins and minerals that you and your baby need. However, I do have a few qualms about recommending this prenatal. First of all, it comes in tablet form. Although this makes the product cheaper (tablets are less expensive to manufacture than capsules), it also makes it harder for your body to break it down, thus hindering the absorption process. The artificial colors in this prenatal vitamin also make me nervous. Pregnancy is a time to keep your body at its very healthiest and refrain from putting anything but the most wholesome ingredients in to it.

I would also feel better about recommending this prenatal vitamin if it included more high end ingredients. Research has shown that, while the old staples of folic acid, calcium, and iron are still very important, a prenatal vitamin should really contain probiotics, CoQ10, inositol, choline, DHA, and ginger.

When looking at the overall value of Nature’s Bounty Prenatal Formula, its low price is its most positive feature. Its content, however, is also relatively low. Pregnancy is a time to give you and your baby the very best, and while you don’t want to break the bank, you also don’t want to skimp on good nutrition. I would recommend looking for a prenatal vitamin that can give you an overall better value.

Happy shopping!

Is Mother Child by Pure Essence Lab safe?

Mother&Child is a postnatal vitamin meant to be taken after delivery and throughout the nursing period. This multivitamin contains vitamins and minerals, as well as including green foods and herbs that are meant to keep a new mother healthy and energized. Although this vitamin is not inherently dangerous, women with allergies should note that it does contain soy, dairy, and corn. It is, however, free from artificial colorings, flavorings, GMO’s, sugar, yeast, gluten, and wheat. As always, you should follow the dosage advice and consult your doctor before beginning to take this supplement.

Ingredients found in Mother Child by Pure Essence Lab

Mother&Child has an extensive and impressive list of ingredients. Each dose contains beta carotene, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitaminB3, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, calcium, magnesium, manganese, iron, potassium, zinc, copper, molybdenum, mixed tocopherols:gamma, beta, delta, tocotrienols, colostrum, rutin, hesperidin complex, phycocyanin, barley grass juice concentrate, high ORAC blend of six berries, organic spinach powder, white peony root, achyranthis herb, philodendron bark, organic broccoli, organic parsley powder, phasophyta/rhodophyta kelp, codonopsis, astragalus root, gynostermma leaf, asparagus root, ophiopogon root, lycii fruit, eucommia bark, trace mineral complex, rehmannia root, cornus fruit, ginger root, essential oil of lemon, essential oil of lavender, silica, vitamin C, thiamine, riboflavin, folic acid, biotin, vitamin B12, iodine chromium, selenium, phosphadylcholine, inositol, chlorophyll, mixed cartenoids, xanthophylls, boron, vanadium, L-taurine, spirulina platensis, cellulose gum, and magnesium. If you haven’t fallen asleep just trying to read through that list, then we can look at these ingredients. To be honest, I’m not even 100% sure what all these ingredients are, but I tried to do some research. I wanted to research the presence of L-taurine in particular, because I thought I had seen that ingredient on energy drinks – definitely not what I want while I am nursing. While reading about L-taurine, I found a warning specifically for nursing women that said that women need to talk to their doctors before taking it. You are also supposed to take L-taurine between meals, while Mother&Child’s instructions say that you should take the multivitamin with a meal. It’s enough to make me nervous, but not necessarily a deal-breaker. Still, it would be one more question to ask your doctor.

What key ingredients are missing in Mother Child by Pure Essence Lab?

Mother&Child does not contain any probiotics, CoQ10, or DHA. Although this vitamin does not contain choline, it does contain phosphatidylcholine, which has components of choline, and can still positively affect the body.

How much is Mother Child by Pure Essence Lab?

Prices may vary depending on the vendor, but you should expect to spend $35-$50 for a bottle of 180 tablets. You need to be aware though, that dosages range from 4-6 tablets daily. In other words, a bottle of 180 tablets would only last a month or a month and a half.

Overall rating of Mother Child by Pure Essence Lab

I have mixed feelings about Mother&Child. On one hand, I applaud this supplement for including inositol and ginger in its ingredients – both essential for women after delivering a baby. I appreciate that this product is vegetarian, and that it doesn’t contain artificial colorings or flavorings. On the other hand though, I really hate that not only do these come in tablet form, you have to take up to 6(!) tablets a day. Personally I don’t like taking tablets, and they are much harder for your body to break down. I always prefer taking a capsule. Furthermore, I know for myself that it would be almost impossible to remember to take 6 pills a day! Even if you are more organized than me, it seems a bit excessive to have to take two pills with every meal. And, if you are like me, you hate to swallow any more pills than you have to!

All in all, this supplement is not for me. Hopefully this review will help you decide whether or not it is right for you!

Is Duet Chewable Prenatal Multivitamin safe?

Duet Chewable Prenatal Multivitamin is a prescription prenatal vitamin that follows USP (U.S. Pharmacopeia) standards. It is meant to be taken during and after pregnancy. If you use this product according to its instructions and those of your doctor, then it is safe.

Ingredients found in Duet Chewable Prenatal Multivitamin?

Duet Chewable Prenatal Multivitamin contains 10 vitamins: vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, niacinamide, vitamin B6, folic acid, and vitamin B12. This prenatal vitamin also includes five minerals: calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, and copper. Because this is a chewable vitamin, there are also a host of additional ingredients included in each supplement: acacia, ascorbic palmitate, aspartame, butylated hydroxytoluene, calcium silicate, citric acid, cornstarch, dicalcium phosphate, dl-alpha tocopherol, FD&C Yellow #6 aluminum lake, flavor debittering, fructooligosaccharides, gelatin, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, mannitol, mixed glycerides, orange flavor, silicon dioxide, sodium aluminum silicate, sodium benzoate, sodium citrate, sorbic acid, sorbitol, NF, sucrose, vanilla flavor, and xylitol.

Ok, ok, ok – so what does that list of ingredients mean? Basically the first two groups, the list of vitamins and minerals, are a highly beneficial group of supplements that can benefit you, your child, and your pregnancy. It’s that last list that bothers me. Many of those ingredients are just fancy names for artificial colors and sweeteners – NOT what I’m looking for in a prenatal vitamin that is supposed to keep me and my baby healthy!

What key ingredients are missing in Duet Chewable Prenatal Multivitamin?

Despite that extensive list of ingredients above, Duet Chewable does not contain any ingredients that I would consider “key.” Despite recent research that counts probiotics, CoQ10, inositol, choline, and DHA as indispensable during pregnancy, Duet Chewable does not contain any of them. Furthermore, Duet Chewable does not contain any ginger, which in my opinion, is an absolute Godsend to pregnant women. As far as I know, it’s the only completely all-natural cure to morning sickness and nausea. Duet Chewable’s biggest shortcoming is its lack of ginger, and the other key ingredients.

How much is Duet Chewable Prenatal Vitamin?

This prenatal vitamin is $50 for a bottle of 90 vitamins.

Overall rating of Duet Chewable Prenatal Vitamin?

In short, I wouldn’t recommend Duet Chewable Prenatal Vitamin when there are so many other options out there. Although this vitamin covers the basics of prenatal vitamins and minerals that you should take, including, in its defense, a high dosage of folic acid, it includes no probiotics, no CoQ10, no inositol, no choline, no DHA, and no ginger. I do feel like I should mention that Duet DOES have another prenatal vitamin on the market called Duet DHA EC that I consider to be slightly better. You can check out the review here. In addition to its lack of crucial ingredients, Duet Chewable Prenatal Vitamin has too many artificial ingredients for me to give it a high review. Bottom line – I give this prenatal vitamin a “mediocre” rating.

Is Dr. Greene Prenatal Multivitamin/Multimineral safe?

When picking a prenatal vitamin, there are so many things to consider – ingredients, quality, percentage, and absorption. Luckily, Dr. Greene Prenatal Multivitamin/Multimineral does not contain anything unsafe. This prenatal vitamin contains a combination of 22 nutrients in capsule form (which makes them easier for your body to absorb than tablet form). For those on a vegan diet or with allergies, you should know that the capsule is made with gelatin.

Ingredients found in Dr. Greene Prenatal Multivitamin/Multimineral?

Dr. Greene Prenatal Multivitamin/Multimineral contains vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin B12, biotin, pantothenic acid, calcium, iron, iodine, magnesium, zinc, copper, and manganese. Each capsule also contains choline, inositol, and PABA. Other ingredients include gelatin, cellulose, medium chain triglycerides, croscarmellose sodium, purified water, soy lecithin, polysorbate 80, calcium stearate, potassium choride, silica, and potassium citrate.

What key ingredients are missing in Dr. Greene Prenatal Multivitamin/Multimineral?

This prenatal vitamin has a good combination of quality ingredients at pretty high percentages. Each dose gives you appropriate amounts of folic acid (800mcg) and vitamin B6 (4mg). When it comes to calcium, at 400mg, it’s important to note that pregnant women need more than twice this amount. Many prenatal vitamins have an even lower calcium count though, so 400mg isn’t terrible, although I prefer upwards of 700mg in a prenatal vitamin. Most glaring of all though, is the lack of probiotics, CoQ10, DHA, and ginger. Studies have shown that taking probiotics during pregnancy can reduce the risk of childhood obesity. For more information, you can go here. CoQ10 can help you feel more energetic during pregnancy – something crucial when you are living and eating for two! DHA is an ingredient that helps your baby’s central nervous system develop, and ginger can help reduce nausea and morning sickness in pregnant women. The lack of these ingredients keeps me from giving Dr. Greene’s Prenatal vitamin the highest rating, although I do give the vitamin some points for including inositol and choline – two key ingredients that can help reduce the risk of birth defects.

How much is Dr. Greene Prenatal Multivitamin/Multimineral?

Anywhere from $15-$26 for a bottle of 120 capsules. However, one dose is two capsules, so a bottle of 120 capsules would last for two months, not four.

Overall rating of Dr. Greene Prenatal Multivitamin/Multimineral?

This is a bit tricky – in general, I consider this prenatal vitamin to be better than many other over the counter prenatal vitamins. Each dose has generous amounts of vitamins A, C, D, E, B6, and B12, as well as providing enough iron. I also applaud this product for including choline and inositol (although at somewhat low doses – 10 mg instead of the preferable 20mg). It’s too bad that Dr. Greene’s extensive list of ingredients ends there. With the addition of probiotics, CoQ10, DHA, and ginger, I would have given this vitamin a very high rating. As it is, I would give it a “B” grade. As always, it is up to your judgement, and that of your doctor, to decide whether or not a prenatal vitamin is right for you. If you decide that Dr. Greene Prenatal Multivitamin/Multimineral is not for you, I recommend perusing www.pregnancyvitamins.net to find one that is perfect for your needs.

Is Deva Vegan Prenatal Multivitamin and Mineral safe?

Deva Vegan Prenatal Multivitamin and Mineral is a prenatal vitamin that contains many vitamins, minerals, and supplements. It is also a vegan product, so there are no animal products, byproducts, or derivatives. It contains no GMO’s, yeast, wheat, gluten, milk, sugar, salt, starch, preservatives, artificial flavors or dyes.

What ingredients are found in Deva Vegan Prenatal Multivitamin and Mineral?

Each dose contains vitamin A, vitamin D2, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B3, vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin B12, biotin, vitamin B5, calcium, iron, iodine, magnesium, zinc, selenium, copper, manganese, chromium, molybdenum, boron, choline, inositol, lutein, PABA, citrus bioflavinoids, pectin, betaine Hcl, alfaalfa medicago sativa, chamomile matricaria recutita, rose hips rosa canina, acercola extract malphighia, cellulose, stearic acid, croscarmellose sodium, vegetable stearate, and silica.

What key ingredients are missing in Deva Vegan Prenatal Multivitamin and Mineral?

Although Deva Vegan Prenatal Multivitamin and Mineral does a pretty good job of containing high dosages of many vitamins and minerals, including choline and inositol, this prenatal vitamin contains no probiotics, CoQ10, DHA, or ginger.

How much is Deva Vegan Prenatal Multivitamin and Mineral?

Prices may vary, but, in general, a bottle with 90 tablets ranges in price from $10 – $15.

Overall rating of Deva Vegan Prenatal Multivitamin and Mineral

It’s easy to see the appeal of Deva Vegan Prenatal Multivitamin and Mineral. In general, Deva has done a terrific job of putting together an impressive prenatal vitamin. When it comes to the basics, Deva has higher-than-average amounts of vitamin C, vitamin E, a host of B vitamins, and folic acid. If you’re a vegetarian or a vegan, or even just a health-conscious mom-to-be, Deva’s vegan ingredients are quite attractive. These vitamins are 100% animal free, as well as free from artificial flavors and dyes.

That being said, Deva Vegan Prenatal Multivitamin and Mineral does have a few shortcomings. Each dose has only 100mg of calcium – about 10% of your daily need. Calcium is one of the most crucial minerals for you and your baby during this special time, and it is imperative that you get plenty. While it is rare for a prenatal vitamin to contain your full value of 1000mg – calcium is pretty bulky to get into a prenatal vitamin without making it too big to swallow, 100mg is still pretty low. Ideally, you should look for a prenatal vitamin with 750mg. Furthermore, Deva Vegan Prenatal Multivitamin and Mineral does not contain DHA, ginger, CoQ10, or probiotics – major components for a healthy and happy pregnancy and birth. Lastly, Deva Vegan Prenatal Multivitamin and Mineral comes in tablet form. Since tablets are cheaper to make, prenatal vitamins that come in tablet form are cheaper to buy. Unfortunately, they are also harder for your body to break down and absorb. When possible, it is always preferable to take a capsule.

Deva Vegan Prenatal Multivitamin and Mineral has many strong pros, and some strong cons as well. As always, it is up to you and your doctor to decide if this prenatal vitamin is right for you. For me, the vegan factor is a big plus, although I would feel better if this vitamin came in capsule form and included a few more high end ingredients. That being said, this product is quite affordable, and if money is tight this might be the best bang for your buck. If not, check out our recommended prenatal vitamin below.

Is Coromega Prenatal OmegaBaby High DHA Omega-3 safe?

Yes, in general, Coromega Prenatal OmegaBaby High DHA Omega-3 can be considered safe, although women with allergies should note that it does contain egg. To take this product, pregnant women are instructed to ingest 2 packets daily of this peach flavored supplement. Coromega recommends mixing it with food or eating it alone. With each packet, a pregnant woman receives 9mg of vitamin C, 710mg of fish oil, 320mg of long chain omega-3 fatty acids, and 150mg of DHA. With the recommended two packets a day, a pregnant woman would definitely receive sufficient amounts of DHA (300mg), an integral component of prenatal health. DHA helps a baby’s central nervous system develop, while also helping his or her eyes and vision develop.

Ingredients found in Coromega Prenatal OmegaBaby High DHA Omega-3?

Safflower oil, fish oil, water, ascorbic acid, natural peach flavor, pasteurized egg yolk, sodium ascorbate, stevia leaf extract, vegetable oil, citric acid, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, natural mixed tocopherols, xanthan gum, and menthol. This product also contains egg.

What key ingredients are missing in Coromega Prenatal OmegaBaby High DHA Omega-3?

It is very important to realize that Coromega’s High DHA Omega-3 product is NOT a prenatal vitamin and should not be taken as the sole supplement during pregnancy. Coromega Prenatal OmegaBaby High DHA Omega-3 does not contain folic acid, calcium, iron, ginger, choline, CoQ10, probiotics, or vitamin B6 – essential components to a healthy baby and a mother-to-be. Coromega’s product should be taken as an auxiliary supplement WITH another prenatal vitamin.

How much is Coromega Prenatal OmegaBaby High DHA Omega-3?

Prices may vary between $15 and $25 a box. Consumers should remember though, that although a box contains 30 packets, a daily dose is two packets. A month’s supply of this supplement is two boxes – $30-$50 overall.

Overall rating of Coromega Prenatal OmegaBaby High DHA Omega-3?

Coromega has created a unique supplement with quality ingredients. Coromega’s site reminds us that its combination of omega-3 and DHA can not only help a baby’s brain develop, but also “improve the mother’s health, potentially reducing the risk of postpartum depression”. However, I still have a few qualms about recommending Coromega Prenatal OmegaBaby High DHA Omega-3. To begin, the price of this product is deceptively high. Since this product is meant to be taken throughout pregnancy (with the additional option of taking it before and after pregnancy), a total price tag for the privilege of taking OmegaBaby High DHA Omega-3 could range anywhere from $270-$450. This alone may be enough to deter a casual shopper, but remember, it is essential that you continue to take a prenatal vitamin in addition to Coromega Prenatal OmegaBaby High DHA Omega-3. If you have plenty of money to spend on your prenatal supplements, then certainly mix and match to your heart’s content (remembering always to check with your physician before introducing any vitamins or supplements into your diet).
In my opinion, it is easier and more cost effective to look for one prenatal vitamin that contains both the DHA that Coromega offers you AND the folic acid, calcium, iron, ginger, choline, CoQ10, probiotics, and vitamin B6 that you and your baby need.

Is Bellybar Prenatal Chewable Vitamin safe?

Bellybar Prenatal Chewable Vitamin is a multi-vitamin that comes in chewable tablet form and is meant to be taken before, during, and after pregnancy. This vitamin is considered safe and contains no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. It is gluten-free. It should be noted that since it is a chewable vitamin, it contains sucrose.

Ingredients found in Bellybar Prenatal Chewable Vitamin?

The vitamins and minerals found in Bellybar Prenatal Chewable Vitamin are vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin B12, calcium, iron, and zinc. This vitamin also contains sucrose, stearic acid, dried vegetable and fruit juices (for color), silicon dioxide, orange and cherry flavors, and magnesium stearate.

What key ingredients are missing in Bellybar Prenatal Chewable Vitamin?

Bellybar does a good job of providing sufficient amounts of folic acid, vitamin B6, iron, and vitamins C, D, and E. However, there are several key ingredients missing. Bellybar Prenatal Chewable contains no CoQ10, something that can help your heart health and your energy levels during pregnancy. The vitamin has no probiotics, essential to a healthy gastrointestinal system and to prevent childhood obesity. There is no DHA in Bellybar’s prenatal vitamin, a vital component in ensuring growth and development in the central nervous system. Furthermore, Bellybar Prenatal Chewable Vitamin contains no ginger, which can help prevent and cure nausea and morning sickness.
Although the vitamin contains calcium, each dose has only 200mcg. I recommend looking for a prenatal vitamin that contains at least 750mcg.

How much is Bellybar Prenatal Chewable Vitamin?

Prices may vary depending on where you purchase this vitamin, but range from $10-$15 for a bottle of 60 tablets (enough for one month).

Overall rating of Bellybar Prenatal Chewable Vitamin

Because this prenatal vitamin comes in chewable form, it contains sucrose and flavorings. Unless you truly cannot swallow pills, you may want to avoid these “extras” in your prenatal vitamin. If you need to take a chewable vitamin though, Bellybar Prenatal Chewable Vitamin may be an option for you. This vitamin contains many of the basics that you should look for in a prenatal vitamin, like folic acid, vitamin B6, and iron, but lacks some very important ingredients – namely CoQ10, probiotics, sufficient amounts of calcium, DHA, and ginger. If you decide to take Bellybar Prenatal Chewable Vitamin, it is up to you to obtain these ingredients from other sources. Bellybar does offer a line of prenatal products – some of which contain additional calcium, DHA, and choline. However, if you want a more all-inclusive prenatal vitamin, you may want to look at our top-rated prenatal vitamin here.

Is Stuart Prenatal safe?

Yes, Stuart Prenatal is your average over-the-counter prenatal vitamin and not overtly harmful. However, as with any vitamin, you may want to take a look at the ingredients, especially since Stuart Prenatal comes in tablet form, and thus includes some chemicals used as fillers, binders, additives, diluents, preservatives, and coatings, like hydroxy methylcellulose, dicalcium phosphate, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, polysorbate 80, sorbic acid, sodium benzoate, BHT, sodium aluminosilicate, and microcrystalline, as well as containing some coloring in the form of titanium dioxide and red (CI 77491-iron oxides).

Ingredients found in Stuart Prenatal

Stuart Prenatal contains Calcium Carbonate, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Ferrous Fumarate (Iron), Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, Gelatin, Di Alpha Tocopherol Acetate (Vitamin E), Microcrystalline Cellulose, Zinc Oxide, Acacia Gum (Acacia Senegal), Niacinamide, Croscarmellose Sodium, Titanium Dioxide, Di Calcium Phosphate, Corn Starch, Magnesium Stearate, Sucrose, Polyethylene Glycol, Pyridoxine HCl, Beta Carotene, Thiamine Monohydrate (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Silicon Dioxide, Folic Acid (Folate) Vitamin B12, Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C), Red (CI 77491- Iron Oxides), Sodium Ascorbate, Di Alpha Tocopherol Acetate (Vitamin E), Polysorbate 80, Sorbic Acid (A Preservative), Mixed Glycerides, Sodium Benzoate, Carnauba (Copernicia Cerifera) Wax, Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3), Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12), BHT, and Sodium Aluminosilica

What key ingredients are missing in Stuart Prenatal?

Although Stuart Prenatal contains many of the basic vitamins and minerals that help enhance and maintain a healthy pregnancy, there are a few ingredients that are not included. Recent studies have shown that pregnant women (and their babies) can improve their current and future health by taking a prenatal vitamin including probiotics, CoQ10, DHA, and/or ginger root. Probiotics provide healthy, essential bacteria to you and your baby and help to keep your immune system function efficiently – maintaing good health during this crucial time. Probiotics help your digestive system and can also help prevent obesity in your baby – check out our article here. CoQ10 is an antioxidant that helps keep your heart healthy and can help keep you feeling energetic during those dog days of pregnancy. DHA is another important addition to look for in a prenatal vitamin. Not only does DHA help your baby’s vision, it helps your baby’s central nervous system to grow healthy and strong. One last ingredient that you may want to look for (and that Stuart Prenatal does not include) is ginger. This humble plant is more than seasoning in tasty Chinese food, it has been used for thousands of years as a natural medicine to reduce nausea. If you suffer from morning sickness, a prenatal vitamin containing ginger is a must.

How much is Stuart Prenatal?

Depending on where you buy Stuart Prenatal, prices can vary, but most hover around $30 for 100 tablets.

Overall Rating of Stuart Prenatal

To me, Stuart Prenatal does not offer anything particularly special as far as prenatal vitamins go. Although it contains many nutrients that are beneficial, it lacks many of the high-end ingredients that you should look for in a prenatal vitamin. Some people (including me) may also prefer a prenatal vitamin that is not in tablet form. It is a bit cheaper than many other prenatal vitamins, but overall I would not give Stuart Prenatal a rating better than average. If Stuart Prenatal is not right for you, check out our top-rated prenatal vitamins below.

Is Prenatal Care by Twinlab safe?

During pregnancy, many women choose to take prenatal vitamins to make up for any deficiencies in their diets. Twinlab Pre-Natal offers 22 high quality nutrients to support your health in the days leading up to conception, during pregnancy, and after your baby is born. Twinlab Pre-Natal also contains nutrients to help your baby develop and grow during these crucial months.

What ingredients are in Twinlab Pre-Natal?

Twinlab Pre-Natal contains vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin B12, biotin, pantothenic acid, calcium, iron, iodine, magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, choline, inositol, and PABA.

What key ingredients are missing in Twinlab Pre-Natal?

Twinlab Pre-Natal contains all the nutrients that most doctors recommend in a prenatal vitamin: folic acid, vitamin D, calcium, vitamin C, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B12, vitamin E, zinc, and iron. However, some specialty prenatal vitamins contain a form of probiotics, CoQ10, DHA, or ginger root. Unfortunately, Twinlab Pre-Natal does not contain any of these. However, each capsule does contain inositol and choline, both members of the B vitamin family, that help in the structure and functioning of cells. Choline helps your metabolism to function properly – keeping you feeling energetic during pregnancy. Inositol also helps your metabolism by aiding your body in metabolizing fats.

How much is Twinlab Pre-Natal?

Prices may vary depending on where you shop, but range from $10-$20.

Overall rating of Twinlab Pre-Natal?

Although Twinlab Pre-Natal is missing probiotics, CoQ10, DHA, and ginger root, it contains many important nutrients that make a prenatal vitamin valuable. It also contains fairly high percentages of several key nutrients. For example, doctors recommend a minimum 400 mcg of folic acid – Twinlab gives the full 800mcg. It gives 400mg of calcium (instead of the minimum 200-300mg). It gives 120mg of vitamin C in place of the meager 70mg minimum. It offers almost twice the minimum riboflavin and twice the minim of niacin. When looking for a prenatal vitamin, Vitamin B12 is one of the most important vitamins to look for and Twinlab doesn’t disappoint, with 12mcg. Twinlab Pre-natal also contains an unusually high dosage of vitamin E, and sufficient doses of zinc and iron. As prenatal vitamins go, Twinlab Pre-natal definitely covers the basics for an extremely reasonable price. If money is a major concern, it may be the right prenatal vitamin for you. As always, check with your doctor to make sure that your prenatal vitamin is a good fit for your unique pregnancy.

Is Gesticare DHA the Right Prenatal Vitamin For You?

Gesticare is a prescription medication that includes a tablet and a DHA gelatin capsule. The reasoning behind having two different pills is to avoid interference of calcium and iron absorption. It does this by having the pills absorb into different parts of your intestines. The problem with this is, needing to take two separate pills which might make some people unhappy. The good thing is that you only have to take these pills once a day.

Ingredients in Gesticare DHA

Vitamin B1, Thiamin Mononitrate – 3.0 mg, Vitamin B2, Riboflavin Universal – 3.0 mg, Vitamin B6, Pyridoxine HCl – 50.0 mg, Vitamin B12, Cyanocobalamin – 8.0 ?g, Vitamin C, Ascorbic acid – 120.0 mg, Niacin, Niacinamide – 20.0 mg, Folic acid – 1.0 mg, Iron, Ferrous Fumarate – 28.0 mg, Calcium, Calcium Carbonate – 200.0 mg, Vitamin D, Vitamin D3 – 420.0 IU, Vitamin E, Vitamin E 500 – 30.0 IU, Iodine, Potassium Iodide – 150.0 ?g, Zinc, Zinc Oxide – 15.0 mg, Choline, Choline Bitartrate – 55.0 mg, and 250mg of DHA.

Other Ingredients: Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose silicified microcrystalline cellulose, citric acid, triethyl citrate, polysorbate 80, glycerol monostearate, methacrylic acid-ethyl acrylate copolymer dispersion, polyacrylate dispersion, talc, maltodextrin, dextrose monohydrate, polydextrose, medium chain triglycerides, allula red AC aluminum lake, indigo carmine aluminum lake and purified stearic acid.

Essential Ingredients to Look For In a Prenatal Vitamin

When looking into prenatal vitamins there are a few important ingredients to make sure that your prenatal vitamin has. Important ingredients to look for are CoQ10, Ginger, Probiotics, at least (400mcg) of Folate but preferably (800-1000mcg), Vitamin B6 (25-50mg), Calcium (750mg) or more, and (50mg-200mg) of DHA is a must. Choline and Insitol are nice additions and I strongly recommend them. Capsules, softgels, and liquids are better to take than tablets which are harder to swallow and harder to absorb.

I focus on these ingredients because many prenatal vitamins do not contain these ingredients or do not have the right amounts of these ingredients. There are other important ingredients found in prenatal vitamins, but most prenatal vitamins contains those ingredients.

Essential Ingredients Found in Gesticare DHA

Gesticare DHA has a good amount of quality ingredients. Some of the essential ingredients found in Gesticare DHA are calcium, Vitamin B6, Choline, and DHA.  The amount of Calcium found in Gesticare DHA is a little low but the other ingredients contain the right percentages. You should look for a Prenatal Vitamin that contains at least 750mg of calcium . If your prenatal vitamin does not contain 750mg of calcium you may want to buy a separate calcium supplement.

Essential Ingredients Not Found in Gesticare DHA

The ingredients that I would have liked to have seen in Gesticare DHA are Inositol, Probiotics, Ginger, and CoQ10. These ingredients help cover things from morning sickness to brain development. The reason many of these ingredients are not found in very many Prenatal Vitamin supplements is due to how new the research is that has shown their effectiveness.

Overall Rating of Gesticare DHA

Gesticare overall is not all that bad of a prenatal vitamin. I would have liked to see a few more ingredients in this product and that is why it is not one of the top prenatal vitamins on my list. As far as side effects from Gesticare they should be similar to most other prenatal vitamins such as nausea and upset stomach. Some of the newer High quality vitamins help with this.

Stuart Prenatal Vitamin

Stuart Prenatal is said to be specially made for the different stages of motherhood: pre-conception, conception, and lactation. Stuart Prenatal is not a prescription medication and is made by Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals Inc. Stuart Prenatal Vitamins come in tablet form and are to be taken once a day. Let’s take a look at the ingredients in Stuart Prenatal to see how this product measures up.

Ingredients Contained In Stuart Prenatal Vitamins

Vitamin A 4000 I.U, Vitamin C 120 mg, Vitamin D 400 I.U., Vitamin E 30 mg (acetate), Thiamin (B1) 1.8 mg, Riboflavin (B2) 1.7 mg, Niacin 20 mg, Vitamin B6 2.6 mg, Folic Acid 800 mcg, Vitamin B12 8 mcg, Calcium 200 mg, Iron 28 mg, and Zinc 25 mg

Other Ingredients: Ascorbic Acid, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Gelatin, Dl-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Acacia, Croscarmellose Sodium, Titanium Dioxide, Corn Starch, Magnesium Stearate, Sucrose, Polyethylene Glycol, Pyridoxine HCI, Beta Carotene, Thiamin Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Silicon Dioxide, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Sodium Ascorbate.

Essential Ingredients to Look For In a Prenatal Vitamin

When looking into prenatal vitamins there are a few important ingredients to make sure that your prenatal vitamin has. Important ingredients to look at are CoQ10, Ginger, Probiotics, at least (400mcg) of Folate but preferably (800-1000mcg), Vitamin B6 (25-50mg), Calcium (750mg) or more, and (50mg-200mg) of DHA is a must. Choline and Insitol are nice additions and I strongly recommend them. Capsules, softgels, and liquids are better to take than tablets which are harder to swallow and harder to absorb.

Essential Vitamins Found In Stuart Prenatal Vitamin

Stuart Prenatal Vitamin contains 800mcg of Folic Acid which is one of the first things to look for in a prenatal vitamin. Also found in Stuart Prenatal Vitamin, Calcium, and Vitamin B6. The problem with the Calcium and the Vitamin B6 is that the percentages contained in this supplement are insufficient. I would look for products that contain 750mg of Calcium and 25-50mg of Vitamin B6.

Essential Vitamins and Minerals Not Found In Stuart Prenatal Vitamin

Stuart Prenatal Vitamin is missing a number of key ingredients that you would find in a top notch prenatal vitamin. Ingredients that I would have like to have seen included in this product are DHA, Choline, Ginger, Probiotics, and Inositol. All of these ingredients can help significantly during a pregnancy. Stuart Prenatal also comes in Tablet form which makes it harder to absorb the vitamins and minerals into your body.

Overall Rating of Stuart Prenatal Vitamin

Stuart is missing out on a number of important ingredients in its prenatal supplement and for that I would rate it in I the lower than average category. Stuart Prenatal is also in tablet form which I do not like because of absorption issues. Overall I would recommend doing some more research before buying Stuart Prenatal. A product that contains all of the new key ingredients is what you should look for.

Essential Ingredients Found In New Chapters Prenatal Vitamin

One thing that I like about New Chapters prenatal vitamin is that it contains Probiotics. Probiotics have shown to increase fertility and lower the rate of spontaneous miscarriage in the first trimester. Probiotics have also been proven to reduce the incidence of eczema in early childhood by 50%. One of the most important ingredients found in New Chapters Prenatal Vitamin is Folate  and it contains 800mcg of it which is good. Vitamin B6 is another essential vitamin found in New Chapter but it is only at 2mg which is an insignificant amount, 25-50mg would be good. Calcium is also found in this supplement but it contains 30mg when it should really contain at least 750mg.

Essential Ingredients Missing In New Chapters Prenatal Vitamin

New Chapters Organic Perfect Prenatal Vitamin I would say is far from perfect. Don’t get me wrong I know there are a lot of good things found in this product but it definitely is not perfect. New Chapters Prenatal Vitamin is also missing ginger, in which I was surprised because it contains just about everything else. I also did not see Choline or Insitol in this product. DHA is also an essential vitamin that is not found in New Chapters Perfect Prenatal Vitamin. Also, as mentioned above many of the essential vitamins found in New Chapters Perfect Prenatal Vitamin are not at the needed amounts.

Overall Rating of New Chapters Perfect Organic Prenatal Vitamin

This product is rated at the lower end of my list of prenatal vitamins. This prenatal supplement is missing several important ingredients needed during pregnancy. New Chapters Perfect Prenatal Vitamin also comes in tablet form which is hard to swallow and does not absorb as well in the stomach when compared to other forms. There are some good things found in this product but not enough for me to recommend this product.

Prenate DHA prenatal vitamins

Prenate DHA is a prescription prenatal vitamin that comes in a softgel and is to be takin once a day. Prenate DHA contains a number of the necessary vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids needed during pregnancy to help both you and your baby during pregnancy. Prenate DHA can also be beneficial prior to conception by increasing nutritional levels in the body. Although, Prenate DHA contains a number of important prenatal vitamins it is also missing out on some of the newer ingredients that have been found to be beneficial during pregnancy.

Prenate DHA Ingredients

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) – 85 mg, Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) – 200 IU, Vitamin E (dl-alpha tocopheryl acetate) – 10 IU, Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine HCl) – 25 mg, Folate – (L-methylfolate as Metafolin® 600 mcg), (folic acid, USP 400 mcg) – 1 mg, Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) – 12 mcg, Calcium (calcium carbonate, USP) – 150 mg, Iron (ferrous fumarate) – 27 mg, Magnesium (magnesium oxide, USP) – 50 mg, Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) – (from 365 mg omega-3 fatty acids)

OTHER INGREDIENTS – Soy lecithin, beeswax, Fish oil, hydrogenated vegetable oil, gelatin, sorbitol, glycerin, propylene glycol, titanium dioxide, vanillin, FD&C blue No.1, hypromellose.

Essential Ingredients to Look For In a Prenatal Vitamin

When looking into prenatal vitamins there are a few important ingredients to make sure that your prenatal vitamin includes. Remember capsules, softgels, and liquids are better to take than tablets which are harder to swallow and harder to absorb.

Essential Ingredients Found in Prenate DHA

Prenate DHA contains Folate at 600mcg which is good, but I would like to see a little bit more such as 800mcg. Vitamin B6 is at a good level. The Calcium in Prenate DHA is not enough, it should be at least 750mg. DHA is an essential ingredient but I would look for just 50-200mg of DHA to avoid over supplementation. Another good thing about Prenate DHA is that it comes in a softgel which is easier to swallow and easier for the body to absorb.

Essential Ingredients Not Found In Prenate DHA

Prenate DHA is missing out on a few vitamins and minerals that have been shown to help out during pregnancy. Prenate DHA does not contain Ginger which has shown to be helpful to reduce morning sickness. There are no Probiotics found in Prenate DHA which which in studies have shown to increase fertility and lower the rate of spontaneous miscarriage in the first trimester. Probiotics have also been proven to reduce the incidence of eczema in early childhood by 50%. Prenate DHA is also missing CoQ10 which has shown to significantly reduce the rate of preeclampsia. Also missing is Choline and Inositol. Inositol has been proven to help reduce the risk of neural tube defects and a study has shown that choline supplementation in pregnant women could help a child’s lifelong learning and memory by increasing brain cell development.

Overall Rating of Prenate DHA

Prenate DHA contains most of the necessary vitamins needed during pregnancy and it also comes in a softgel which is good, but it is missing out on some essential vitamins minerals and probiotics. Overall I would rate Prenate DHA as slightly above average because it contains DHA and many other important ingredients, but it still could do better.

Prenate Elite Prenatal Vitamins

Prenate Elite is a prenatal vitamin that is only available by prescription. This prenatal vitamin contains a variety of vitamins and minerals to help reduce risks for both the mother and child during pregnancy. Just like any other prenatal vitamin Prenate Elite contains one of the most important nutrients to be taken during pregnancy, Folic Acid. Folic acid is an important nutrient that can help prevent certain birth defects, most importantly Spina Bifida. Prenate Elite contains a number of important prenatal vitamins that you need to take when pregnant but at the same time is missing out on some important ones. Let’s take a look at what is contained in Prenate Elite Prenatal Vitamin.

Minerals and Vitamins Found in Prenate Elite

Vitamin A (100% as beta-carotene) 2500 IU, Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) 120 mg, Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) 400 IU, Vitamin E (dl-alpha tocopheryl acetate) 10 IU, Vitamin B1 (thiamine mononitrate) 3 mg, Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) 3.4 mg, Niacinamide, USP 20 mg, Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine HCl) 20 mg, Folate (L-methylfolate as Metafolin® 600 mcg), (folic acid, USP 400 mcg) 1 mg, Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) 12 mcg, Biotin 300 mcg, Pantothenic acid (calcium pantothenate, USP) 6 mg, Calcium (calcium carbonate) 120 mg, Iron (ferrous fumarate) 27 mg, Iodine (potassium iodide) 150 mcg, Magnesium (magnesium oxide, USP) 30 mg, Zinc (zinc oxide, USP) 15 mg, Copper (cupric oxide)

Key Ingredients to Look For In a Top Notch Prenatal Vitamin

When looking into prenatal vitamins there are a few important ingredients to make sure that your prenatal has. Important ingredients to look at are CoQ10, Ginger, Probiotics, at least 400mcg of Folate but preferably 800-1000mcg, Vitamin B6 25-50mg, Calcium at least 750mg, and 50mg-200mg of DHA is a must. Choline and Insitol are nice additions and I would strongly recommend them. Remember capsules, softgels, and liquids are better to take than tablets which are harder to swallow and harder to absorb. Let’s look at how many of these ingredients are found in Prenate Elite.

Key Ingredients Found in Prenate Elite Prenatal Vitamin

Some of the key ingredients found in Prenate Elite are Folate (600mcg), Vitamin B6 (20mg), and Calcium (120mg). The Folate amount found in Prenate Elite is a little low. I would like to see a little more such as (800-1000mcg). As for the Vitamin B6 level its more than most but I still would like to see (25-50mg). For the Calcium levels I feel Prenate Elite is way low on that, it should be at least (750mg).

Important Ingredients That Are Not Found in Prenate Elite

Prenate Elite is missing out on a few vitamins and minerals that have been shown to help out during pregnancy. First off, Prenate Elite is missing Ginger which has shown to be highly helpful in nausea to help out with morning sickness. Second there are no Probiotics found in the product which may help increase fertility and lower the rate of spontaneous miscarriage in the first trimester. Probiotics have also been proven to reduce the incidence of eczema in early childhood by 50%. Prenate Elite is also missing CoQ10 which has shown to significantly reduce the rate of preeclampsia. Prenate Elite is also missing out on Choline and Inositol. Inositol has been proven to help further reduce the risk of neural tube defects. In a recent study choline supplementation in pregnant women has shown to possibly affect children’s lifelong learning and memory by increasing brain cell development. Another problem with Prenate Elite is that it comes in Tablet form which has shown in studies to be harder to swallow and absorb.

Overall Rating of Prenate Elite Prenatal Vitamin

Prenate Elite would be rated on my list as an average prenatal vitamin. That being said, I believe that Prenate Elite contains a number of important vitamins and minerals that will definitely help out during pregnancy. Overall Prenate Elite could use a few more vitamins and minerals that have shown in recent studies to help with development and health during pregnancy.

Are One A Day Plus DHA Prenatal Vitamins A Good Supplement?

Taking a prenatal vitamin is one of those most important things you can do for your baby during pregnancy. This said, choosing which prenatal to take is a big decision. One A Day offers a variety of multi-vitamin supplements for men and women, but does their Prenatal formula contain everything it needs?

One A Day Plus DHA Prenatal Vitamins Ingredients Overview

One A Day Plus DHA does contain important ingredients needed during pregnancy. However, some of these ingredients either aren’t in quality forms or don’t contain high enough dosage amounts.

Take calcium for example, One A Day Plus DHA Prenatal only contains 23% of your recommended daily value. I would like to see it contain more than 50% of the recommended daily value. Calcium is not only critical for your developing baby, but its important to keep your bones healthy and strong. Often times if there isn’t enough calcium coming from your diet or vitamins, your body will leach the calcium from your bones for the baby. This is why so many women often experience a lot of tooth decay during pregnancy.

One a Day Plus DHA does contain a stool softener, I would rather see probiotics to help with constipation caused by pregnancy. Your body can become dependant on stool softeners. Probiotics not only naturally help constipation, they also boost your immune system.

Ingredients: Calcium Carbonate , Cellulose , Ferrous Fumarate , Magnesium Oxide , Ascorbic Acid , Dicalcium Phosphate , Dl-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate , Croscarmellose Sodium , Maltodextrin , Niacinamide , Gelatin , Acacia , Polyvinyl Alcohol , Zinc Oxide , D-Calcium Pantothenate , Corn Starch , Titanium Dioxide , Polyethylene Glycol , Magnesium Stearate , Talc , Cupric Sulfate , Silicon Dioxide , Pyridoxine Hydrochloride , Calcium Silicate , Riboflavin , Thiamin Mononitrate , Hypromellose , Beta-Carotene , FD&C Red No. 40 Lake , Folic Acid , Vitamin A Acetate , Potassium Iodide , Cholecalciferol , Cyanocobalamin , Marine Lipid Concentrate , Gelatin , Glycerin , Methacrylic Acid Copolymer , Propylene Glycol , Glyceryl Monostearate , Triethyl Citrate , Triacetin , Soy Lecithin

One A Day Plus DHA Prenatal Vitamins Concerns

I don’t like that this prenatal vitamin comes as a tablet. Tablets are hard to swallow, and aren’t absorbed nearly as well as capsules. Another concern I have is, One a Day Plus DHA contains FD&C Red No. 40 Lake, this synthetic dye is a ridiculous ingredient for a prenatal vitamin to contain. Honestly, who cares if your vitamin is pink? Exposing your baby daily to an unnecessary, unnatural dye is not a good idea. Also, there are some other questionable ingredients, like talc. Why would talc be in a prenatal vitamin?

How Much Are One A Day Plus DHA Prenatal Vitamins?

This prenatal vitamin is around $15.00 for a month supply, and can be found over the counter at most retail stores. This is affordable, but in my opinion high quality ingredients should be the highest priority when it comes to choosing a prenatal vitamin.

One A Day Plus DHA Prenatal Vitamins Conclusion

After researching this prenatal vitamin, I just don’t feel good about recommending it. It contains questionable ingredients, and low concentrations of important vitamins and minerals. Even though its affordable, One A Day Plus DHA Prenatal, is not the prenatal vitamin I would choose. I would look for something more affordable, with double the amount of calcium, and no synthetic dyes.

Duet DHA EC Prenatal Vitamin

Duet DHA EC is a prenatal vitamin that is the same Duet DHA except that it contains a special coating to help prevent stomach upset. Duet DHA EC is a prescription medication made for both prenatal and postnatal supplementations. Duet DHA focuses on the fact that it contains DHA, which helps with brain development and also development of the eyes. Let’s take a look at what is found in Duet DHA

Ingredients Found in Duet DHA

OTHER INGREDIENTS
Ammonium hydroxide, ethylcellulose, fractionated coconut oil, gelatin, glycerin, oleic acid, stearic acid, sodium alginate and DHA and EPA concentrate derived from purified fish oil via a proprietary process.

Key Ingredients Found In Duet DHA EC

Duet DHA EC includes a few key ingredients that you would hope to find in all prenatal vitamins. Some of these ingredients include Folic Acid, DHA, Calcium, and Vitamin B6. We all know that Folic Acid is a must in prenatal vitamins to help prevent neural tube problems in a new born. I would look for prenatal vitamins that have at least 400mcg of Folic Acid. DHA helps with brain development and you should look for at least 50-200mg of it when choosing a prenatal vitamin. Duet DHA contains a little too much DHA in my opinion. The calcium found in Duet DHA EC is a little low. You should look for a vitamin that contains at least 750mg.

Key Ingredients Not Found In Duet DHA EC

There are a number of key ingredients that are not contained in Duet DHA EC, which is hard to believe when you look through their long list of ingredients. Some of the important ingredients that are missing are Choline, Inositol, Ginger, Probiotics, and CoQ10. All of these ingredients should be key when looking for one of the best Prenatal Vitamins.

Overall Rating Of Duet DHA EC

Well first off Duet DHA EC looks ridiculous when typed; I don’t know where they came up with the name. Along with having a ridiculous name Duet DHA EC is missing a number of important ingredients that are key when searching for a prenatal vitamin for you and your baby.

Being an expensive prescription medication, I was surprised to see what was missing in this product. Overall this product ranks in the lower end of my list. When choosing a prenatal vitamin remember to look for the key ingredients and don’t get tricked into a prenatal vitamin that is way overpriced.

PreNexa Prenatal Vitamin

PreNaxa Prenatal Vitamins is a product made by Upsher-Smith Laboratories. PreNexa Capsules are indicated to provide you and your baby with the vitamins and minerals you will need throughout your pregnancy. PreNexa prenatal vitamins puts a large focus on carrying DHA. DHA is an important ingredient to have in a prenatal vitamin. DHA is a key omega-3 fatty acid found throughout the body, and helps with the development of your baby’s brain and eyes.

Ingredients Found in PreNexa

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid, USP) – 25 mg, Calcium (tribasic calcium phosphate, NF) – 160 mg, Iron (ferrous fumarate, USP) – 30 mg, Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol, USP) – 170 IU, Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol, USP) – 30 IU, Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine hydrochloride, USP) – 25 mg, Folic Acid, USP – 1.2 mg, DHA (docosahexaenoic acid, contained in the oil derived from, microalgae) – 265 mg, Docusate Sodium, USP – not more than 55 mg

Inactive Ingredients: Ethyl vanillin, FD&C blue #1, FD&C red #40, FD&C yellow #6, gelatin, glycerin, lecithin, palm kernel oil, sodium benzoate, soybean oil, sunflower oil, titanium dioxide, yellow beeswax, water and white ink (ammonium hydroxide, isopropyl alcohol, n-butyl alcohol, propylene glycol, shellac glaze in SD-45 alcohol, simethicone, titanium dioxide).

What Important Ingredients Does PreNexa Contain?

PreNexa contains DHA which I mentioned earlier is a very important ingredient for fetal development. PreNexa also contains Calcium but it is at a lower does than I would recommend. Other important ingredients are Vitamin B6 which helps with morning sickness and was found in studies done in China to reduce miscarriages. Too much B6 can be a problem though. I would look for Prenatal vitamins that contain 25-50mg of vitamin B6. PreNexa also contains Folic Acid which helps decrease neural tube defects.

What Important Ingredients Is PreNexa Missing?

PreNexa contains a number of the necessary vitamins and minerals but is missing a few ingredients that I find to be important. First of all PreNexa should contain more calcium to help fight off the possibility of osteoporosis in the future for the mother. Choline and Inositol are important to include in a prenatal vitamin to help with brain development and also further reduce neural tube problems.

Overall Rating of PreNexa

PreNexa rates in the middle to lower end of prenatal vitamins that I have reviewed. PreNexa is missing out on too many ingredients that have shown to help the mother and child during pregnancy and during breast feeding. PreNexa is expensive and a prescription; so you would think PreNexa would have some of these important ingredients for the price you end up paying. Don’t let your baby down find a product that contains all of the important ingredients for a successful delivery.

Vitafol-OB+DHA prenatal vitamins

Vitafol is a prescription medication made by Everett Laboratories. Vitafol-OB+DHA contains a number of important ingredients just as the name implies (Vitamin A, Folic Acid, and DHA). As a prescription medication Vitafol has a complete list of ingredients, side effects, contraindications, and interactions.

Vitafol is made to cover the necessary vitamins and minerals during and after pregnancy to help both the mother and child. There are many ingredients found in Vitafol-OB+DHA that will help with your child’s development. Let’s take a look at what this product contains.

Ingredients found in Vitafol-OB+DHA

Vit.A (2700 IU), Thiamine (1.6mg), Riboflavin (1.8mg), Niacinamide (18mg), Pyridoxine (2.5mg), Folic Acid (1mg), Vit.B12 (12mcg), Vit.C (70mg), Vit.D (400 IU), Vit.E (30 IU), calcium (100mg), copper (2mg), Iron (65mg), Magnesium (25mg), zinc (25mg), and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) (250mg ). Other ingredients include gluten, lactose, and iodine.

Qualities of Vitafol-OB+DHA

Because Vitafol is a prescription you know it has been approved by the FDA which is a good thing, but should not carry too much weight on that when choosing a prenatal vitamin. Vitafol contains most of the important ingredients such as folic acid, calcium, and DHA, but is missing a number of others. I would have thought a prescription medication would carry more of the important ingredients needed during pregnancy.

Problems of Vitafol-OB+DHA

Vitafol just does not contain the ingredients that I would expect from a prescription prenatal vitamin. First off this product does not contain enough calcium just a 100mg of calcium is not enough to supplement the amount of calcium needed during pregnancy. I would suggest looking for a product that contains at least 750mg. Vitafol is also missing Choline, Inositol, CoQ10, Ginger, Probiotics, and vitamin B6. All of these ingredients can help the mother and child during and after pregnancy.

Overall Rating of Vitafol-OB+DHA

There are few things about Vitafol-OB+DHA that are good but overall I would rate this product on the lower end of my list. Vitafol does not contain a number of the newer ingredients that has shown to be effective for both the mother and child during pregnancy. Include the price for this product, plus the cost of seeing a doctor to get the prescription, and you could find a much better prenatal vitamin in comparison.

Spring Valley Prenatal Vitamins

A broad look at Spring Valley Prenatal Vitamins

Spring valley Prenatal Vitamins are a prenatal vitamin that can be found just about everywhere. Spring Valley is a well known company that deals in just about every type of vitamin out there. Spring Valley states that their prenatal vitamin will provide complete multi vitamin and mineral supplement for pregnant and lactating women. Spring Valley Prenatal Vitamins Come in tablet form and are to be taken once a day.

What Does Spring Valley Prenatal Vitamin Contain?

Vitamin A (4000IU), Vitamin C (120mg), Vitamin D (400IU), Vitamin E (30IU), Vitamin B-1 (Thiamin) (1.8mg), Vitamin B-2 (Riboflavin) (1.7mg), Niacin (20mg), Vitamin B-6 (2.6mg), Folic Acid (800mcg), Vitamin B-12 (8mcg), Calcium (200mg), Iron (28mg), Zinc (25mg).

Other Ingredients: Calcium Carbonate, Cellulose, Ascorbic Acid, Ferrous Fumarate, Maltodextrin, Gelatin, Zinc Oxide, dl-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate, Croscarmellose Sodium, Niacinamide, Crospovidone, Corn Starch, Hypromellose, Dextrin, Titanium Dioxide, Stearic Acid, Polyethylene Glycol, Pyridoxine, Silicon Dioxide, Red 40, Magnesium Stearate, Beta Carotene, Thiamine, Dextrose, Riboflavin, Soy Lecithin, Folic Acid, Dicalcium Phosphate, Yellow 6, Blue 2, Cholecalciferol, Cyanocobalamin.

Important Ingredients Found in Spring Valley Prenatal Vitamin

Spring Valley contains a few important ingredients that can help you and your baby during pregnancy. Ingredients such as Calcium, Vitamin B6, and Folic Acid are all ingredients that can help keep you body in balance and help your baby’s development. Even though Spring Valley contains a few of these good ingredients they are far short on important vitamins and minerals. Spring Valley also does not contain the right amounts of these ingredients.

What Ingredients Is Spring Valley Missing?

Spring Valley is missing out on a number of ingredients that you and your baby could benefit from. First off the calcium in this product is not enough to help keep the calcium being leeched out of your bones. The calcium level should be at least 750mg. Second Spring Valleys Prenatal Vitamin is missing ingredients such as CoQ10, Ginger, Probiotics, DHA, Choline, and Inositol.

All of these ingredients help during pregnancy for a variety of things such as brain development, gestational diabetes, healing after pregnancy, nausea, constipation, and ADD.

Another problem with Spring Valley Prenatal Vitamin is that it uses the tablet form rather than a capsule. Tablets are harder to swallow and makes it more difficult for your body to absorb all of the ingredients.

Overall Rating Of This Product

I would rate Spring Valley Prenatal Vitamins on the lower end of prenatal vitamins. The price of this product is on the lower end. If buying a product because of its lower price just remember that one extra day at the hospital will wipe out all of the savings you made from buying a cheaper prenatal vitamin. Make sure to look for products that contain the full spectrum of known ingredients to help fetal development.

An in depths look at Complete Prenatal System

Formulated by Rainbow Light is a prenatal vitamin that is said to be a scientifically advanced nutritional protection that delivers the full range of vitamins and minerals during pregnancy. Let’s take a look and see just how advanced Complete Prenatal System really is.

What Ingredients Does Complete Prenatal System Contain?

Vitamin A (5000IU), Vitamin C (250mg), Vitamin D (800IU), Vitamin E (200IU), Vitamin K (100mcg), Thiamin (30mg), Riboflavin (35mg), Niacin (40mg), Vitamin B6 (20mg), Folic Acid (1000mcg), Vitamin B12 (60mcg), Biotin (600mcg), Pantothenic Acid (60mg), Calcium (1000mg), Iron (30mg), Iodine (150mcg), Magnesium (500mg), Zinc (15mg), Selenium (200mcg), Copper (1.5mg), Manganese (6mg), Chromium (200mcg), Molybdenum (50mcg), Potassium (50mg), Lemon Bioflavonoids (80mg), Rutin (10mg), Choline (120mg), Insitol (20mg), PABA (10mg), Lactobacillus Sporongenes (30,000,000 CFU), Protease (3,600), Amylase (282 DU), Lipase (3 LU), Cellulase (3 CU), Betaine HCl (60mg), Organic Sprulina (900mg), Alfalfa (60mg), Organic Chlorella (150mg), Red Raspberry, Chamomile, and Ginger

What Important Vitamins and Minerals are found in Complete Prenatal System?

As you can see Complete Prenatal Care system contains a large amount of ingredients. The ones that I like are Calcium, Folic Acid, Vitamin B6, Ginger, Choline, and Inositol. The amounts for each of the ingredients are also good. Calcium has 1000mg which is good, Folic Acid 1000mcg, and 20mg of Vitamin B6. There could be a little more Vitamin B6 but 20mg is not that bad.

What Could Complete Prenatal System Add or Change?

If I was to make my own Prenatal Vitamin I would not have so many ingredients. The amount of different ingredients are a little much. Many of the ingredients are not all that necessary for pregnant women. Products with such a large amount of unnecessary ingredients can cause problems such as nausea or unwanted reactions.

Another thing I would change is the tablet. Complete Prenatal System comes in tablet form which causes problems with swallowing and absorption. Many women have nausea during pregnancy and the difficulty of swallowing a tablet can be difficult.

Something that I would add to this product would be 200mg of DHA which is a must have. Research has shown that mothers are at a lower risk of post partum depression, and mood change. They also recover more quickly after pregnancy. The presence of DHA in a prenatal vitamin will have a positive effect on a child’s sensory, cognitive, and motor development.

I would also like to see this product contain CoQ10 which in studies published in the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics stated that Co-Q10 supplementation results in a significant reduction in the rate of preeclampsia and helps with healing after delivery.

Overall Rating of Complete Prenatal System

Complete Prenatal System contains a number of good ingredients maybe even a little too much. I would Rate this product as a lower end of my list do to what is missing from the product and how many different ingredients are contained in the product. The Price of this product is a little expensive for what you get out of this product. You and Your child’s health are the most important things so doing a little more research to find a better Prenatal Vitamin is what I would recommend.

Twin Labs Prenatal-Care Vitamin

An in depths look at Prenatal-Care Caps

Prenatal Care was formulated by Twinlab and contains 22 different nutrients. Prenatal Care was designed to provide pregnant mothers with the essential vitamins and minerals to help out during pregnancy. The question is whether or not Prenatal Care actually contains the necessary ingredients along with the correct percentage of ingredients.

What Does Prenatal Care Contain?

Prenatal Care contains Vitamin A (8000IU), Vitamin C (120mg), Vitamin D (400IU), Vitamin E (60IU),Thiamin (3mg), Riboflavin (3.4mg), Niacin (40mg), Vitamin B6 (4mg), Folic Acid (800mcg), Vitamin B12 (12mcg), Biotin (600mcg), Pantothenic Acid (20mg), Calcium (400mg), Iron (20mg), Iodine (300mcg), Magnesium (200mg), Zinc (15mg), Copper (2mg), Manganese (2mg), Choline(10mg), Inositol (10mg), PABA (1mg). Other ingredients include Gelatin, Cellulose, Croscarmellose, Sodium, MCT, Purified Water, Soy Lecithin, Polysorbate 80, Calcium Stearate, Potassium Chloride, Silica, and Potassium Citrate.

What important Vitamins and Minerals are found in Prenatal Care?

Prenatal Care contains some of the ingredients that I would recommend to look for in a prenatal vitamin but not nearly all of them. The product contains 800mcg of Folic Acid which is good. It also contains Calcium 400mg which is good but I would like to see at least 50% of the USDA recommendation which would be 750mg.

Prenatal Care also contains Vitamin B6 which I like but I would recommend getting 25-50mg of Vitamin B6 rather than just 4mg. Prenatal Care contains Choline which is a nice addition and Prenatal Care also comes in a capsule rather than a tablet which is harder to absorb and breakdown.

What Is Prenatal Care Missing?

Prenatal Care contains some really good ingredients but I also think it is missing some important ones. The ingredients I would like to see in Prenatal Care are CoQ10 which in studies published in the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics stated that Co-Q10 supplementation results in a significant reduction in the rate of preeclampsia and helps with healing after delivery.

Another ingredient I would like to see is Ginger which helps treat and prevent nausea and vomiting associated with pregnancy, chemotherapy and motion sickness.

Another missing ingredient includes Probiotics and DHA. Probiotics have shown in studies to reduce the frequency of gestational diabetes by 20%.

Overall Rating of Prenatal Care

I would rate Prenatal care as more of an average prenatal vitamin. The product contains some of the important vitamins and minerals but not all of them are at the right amount that I would recommend.

Prenatal care also misses out on some very important ingredients which help out both the mother and child. Prenatal Care also contains a little too much of some ingredients such as 8000IU of Vitamin A which could hinder other ingredients from being absorbed into the body.

The price of Prenatal Care is on the lower side but so is the quality of the product. When It comes down to you and your baby’s health I wouldn’t recommend cutting a few corners to save money.

Are CitraCal RX Prenatal Vitamins The Best Option For You And Your Baby?

CitraCal RX Prenatal Vitamins are available by prescription from your physician. You would think that prescription prenatal vitamins would be superior to all others, but this is definitely not the case.  After researching CitraCal RX Prenatal, I have found its missing important ingredients.

CitraCal Prenatal Vitamins Ingredients Overview

This prenatal does contain some very important ingredients such as folic acid, calcium and iron, but its missing important ingredients like DHA, Choline, and Inositol.

Another concern I have about CitraCal is that it’s a very large tablet, that is hard to swallow. If you’re already nauseated from pregnancy, CitraCal is going to be nearly impossible to take. Not to mention, it will not absorb into your system as well as gel caps, capsules, or liquids.

CitraCal Ingredients:
Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacinamide, Pyridoxine HCl, Folic Acid, Iodine, Zinc, Copper, Docusate Sodium

How Much Are CitraCal Prenatal Vitamins?

Depending on what your insurance covers for prescription medications, will determine how much CitraCal will cost. If you don’t have prescription coverage, CitriCal will be quite expensive.

CitraCal Prenatal Vitamins Conclusion

CitraCal RX Prenatal is missing important components to make it a high quality prenatal vitamin. Its far better than taking nothing, but its not one of the best options out there. If you have a hard time swallowing pills CitraCal RX isn’t the vitamin for you. I would suggest taking a capsule prenatal, that will absorb better and be a thousand times easier to swallow.

Do One Source Prenatal Vitamins Contain Everything Your Developing Baby Needs?

A prenatal vitamin provides essential vitamins and minerals, that are imperative for your baby’s development. There are specific ingredients that are crucial in a prenatal vitamin, does One Source Prenatal contain all of those ingredients?

One Source Prenatal Vitamins Ingredients

Below is the only list of ingredients I could find for One Source Prenatal Vitamins. It does contain the bare necessities, but it doesn’t contain all the ingredients I would like. I would like to see DHA. DHA supports brain and nervous system development.

A worry I have with One Source Prenatal Vitamins is that they contain synthetic dyes. I assume this because the capsules are bright pink. I know they are cuter than normal prenatal vitamins, but synthetic dyes aren’t an ingredient you want your baby to be exposed to on a daily basis.

One Source Prenatal Vitamins Conclusion

I would not recommend going with One Source Prenatal Vitamins. The ingredients are not up to day with current scientific standards. I would recommend taking a prenatal vitamin that contains DHA, and this supplement does not. One Source Prenatal Vitamins are mediocre, there are more advanced prenatal vitamins available.

Is Nature Made Multi Prenatal The Best Vitamin For You And Your Baby?

Nature Made makes a variety of supplements from Vitamin A to Zinc. They are known for making affordable supplements that are readily available. The question is, do they make high enough quality supplements for you to choose, Nature Made Multi Prental, to be the vitamin that helps to nourish your growing baby?

Nature Made Multi Prenatal Vitamin Ingredients Overview

I like that Nature Made Multi Prenatal doesn’t contain any artificial colors, artificial flavors, preservatives, yeast, or gluten. However, other than that, there isn’t much too brag about with this prenatal vitamin. It does contain the bare minimums for recommended vitamins for pregnant women, but it doesn’t contain extras. Like DHA for example, DHA has been proven to boost cognitive, retinal and motor skill development.

Ingredients: Calcium Carbonate, Cellulose Gel, Ascorbic Acid, Ferrous Fumarate, Zinc Oxide, Maltodextrin, Niacinamide, Corn Starch, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Croscarmellose Sodium, dl-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate, Silicon Dioxide, Magnesium Stearate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Beta Carotene, Thiamin Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Polyethylene Glycol, Folic Acid, Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol), Cyanocobalamin.

How Much Is Nature Made Multi Prenatal?

A one month supply is around $12.00. Nature Made products are readily available at a variety of well known stores. You can also purchase Nature Made Multi Prenatal Vitamins online. This product is definitely one of the cheapest prenatal vitamins on the market, but it appears to be inexpensive for a reason.

Nature Made Multi Prenatal Vitamin Conclusion

If Nature Made Multi Prenatal is all you can afford, then it’s certainly better than nothing, but if you’re concerned about having the best prenatal vitamin to provide nutrients to your baby, then this is not it. I would consider Nature Made Multi Prenatal behind the times, there are better prenatal vitamins that contain up date ingredients, like DHA and CoQ10. Below are the prenatal vitamins I highly recommend.

Is Nature Made Prenatal Multi + DHA A High Quality Vitamin?

Nature Made sells many over the counter supplements, that are available at most grocery stores. Nature Made has always made a prenatal vitamin, but has recently improved their old formulation. However, it seems to me, that not all the changes were improvements.

Nature Made Prenatal Multi + DHA Ingredient Overview

I am very disappointed that this prenatal contains synthetic food dyes. Nature Made Prenatal Multi + DHA contains Red 40, Yellow 6, and Blue 1. These dyes are completely unnecessary and should be avoided by pregnant women.

The ingredients in this supplement meet recommend standards for a prenatal vitamin, but that’s about it. Nature Made Prenatal Multi + DHA does not go above and beyond the bare minimum to offer advanced ingredients such as; CoQ10, probiotics, and ginger.

I do like that Nature Made Prenatal has been improved, it now comes in a gel cap and they have added DHA.

Ingredients:Fish Oil, Calcium Carbonate, Gelatin, Soybean Oil, Ascorbic Acid, Water, Ferrous Fumarate, Glycerin, Zinc Oxide, Niacinamide, Soy Lecithin, dl-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate, Yellow Beeswax, Titanium Dioxide (artificial color), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamin Mononitrate, Beta Carotene, Riboflavin, Red 40, Folic Acid, Yellow 6, Blue 1, Cyanocobalamin, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol).

How much is Nature Made Prenatal Multi + DHA?

This prenatal vitamin is $26.99 for a month supply.

Nature Made Prenatal Multi + DHA Conclusion

I just can’t get passed the artificial dyes in this prenatal vitamin to recommend it. There are much better prenatal vitamins available that don’t contain these unnatural dyes. Don’t get me wrong, taking Nature Made Prenatal Multi + DHA is certainly better that not taking anything, but its definitely not the best prenatal for your baby. Below are high quality prenatal vitamins I highly recommend.
